For the port channel system, the characteristics of the arrival law of ships, the ship type size and the ship loading and unloading time at berth all appear random, dynamic and discrete. Uncertainty of natural factors will make disturbance effects on the system, such as the weather and tide. And with the rapid development of China's economy, some ports has the congestion problem. How to solve this problem is a big subject that the port industry is facing. To meet the new challenges and adapt to new market environment, both the port management and the designer should concentrate their efforts to plan the new berths, channels and anchorages accurately and to allocate the existing resources more reasonably. Then the port management can realize the transition from serial processing and rigid scheduling to parallel processing and flexible scheduling, and can improve the existing channel capacity and service level in maximum size. With this, the competitiveness of the port will be improved. Taking the container port area for example and using the discrete event system simulation software, this paper builds simulation models to research the port channel system. On the one hand, contraposing the shortage of the existing computing method on the port anchorage, this paper presents a new way of thinking and computing method in view of computer simulation technology. Using this way, this paper researches the match relationship between the anchorage dimensions and the berth dimensions when the capacity of the single channel or the double channel reaches a certain level, and concludes different effects for this relationship under different travel times in channel. Then this paper researches the changes of channel capacity and service level by making a comparison between the unlimited and the limited anchorage dimensions, and concludes the importance of choosing the right anchorage reliability. On the other hand, contraposing the existing berth scheduling of double channel, this paper presents a optimum proposal to build the new model, and researches the changes of service index and anchorage numbers by making a comparison between the two ways in order to discuss the contribution of the optimum proposal. It concludes that the flexibility of port channel system to different travel times is improved by the optimum proposal, and the state of the system operating is become more steady.
