With the increasing development of power system, the rapid increase in electricity load and the continuous growth of transmission lines, the online-monitoring and diagnosis of power cable is more and more important for the entire power system to run safely and stable. In recent years,power cables has been widely used in the power system.The insulation detection has become a hot topic.As PD signals is closely related with the aging of cable insultion, the testing of cable can be achieved by analysising the PD signal.This paper firstly reviews the existing high-voltage power cable PD detection methods domestic and abroad,and then elaborated on the mechanism of partial discharge in XLPE cables and its propagation characteristics.This paper focouses on the development of the electromagnetic coupling high-frequency current sensors and the design of directional coupler,which is capable of PD positioning and anti-interference.
