The development of Domestic HVDC transmission system needs the HVDC transformer performs better. A big amount of higher harmonics will generate in the load current when the transformer works in a converted way. Due to this, the eddy current field is an nonlinear and nonsinusoidal one. It's meaningful to have a research on the distribution of magnetic leakage field and the calculation of additional loss of converter transformer.Based on the theories of finite element analysis about eddy current field , a special software for magnetic leakage field analysis and additional loss calculation was written in the Visual Basic 6.0.MagNet would be called in the calculation of 2D and 3D field of converter transformer model by the special software. With the special software, 2D parametric modeling became available(including Axisymmetric coordinate system and Cartesian coordinate system), eddy current loss included with Harmonic loss in the coils was computed, |B|-t curve can be plotted at any point on the model, eddy current loss and hysteresis loss included with Harmonic loss were calculated in 3D field, and etc.With the special software, the distribution of magnetic leakage field was available to get in the 2D and 3D field, and the additional loss was calculated both in the time harmonic field and transient field.TEAM Problem 21b was calculated to verify the method of eddy current loss and hystersis loss calculation in 3D field used in this paper.
