As the core of high-speed machine tool, the performance of high-speed spindle speed directly affects the cutting speed and precision of entire machine. Usually equipped with built-in motor, high-speed spindle can leave out the power transmission equipment and make high-speed electric spindle into "zero transmission". The high-speed electric spindle unit has some good characteristics: cramped construction, light weight, good response and so on. Nonetheless, for the reason, this spindle unit with built-in motor is working under high rational speed. Recently thermal characteristics have been one of hot issues to study.In this paper, if high-speed spindle used in 6000r/min, the phenomenon that bearings burnt occurred. It is the main reason that the lubrication is not sufficient. Therefore, it is obliged to study in-depth the effect that the fluid in cooling and lubricating system take on the high-speed spindle thermal characteristics. Reasonable and acceptable spindle use policies are put forward. The temperature of the spindle is controlled. This paper is mainly researched the thermal characteristics of the heat source in the high-speed spindle. Especially, the fluid in cooling and lubricating system take effects on the high-speed spindle thermal characteristics.Firstly, heat sources and generating heat mechanisms are systematically researched. The heat productivity of ceramic angular contact ball bearings under different rotate speeds is accurately calculated. The heating factors and regularity in spindle are displayed. In addition, the program used to calculate the spindle heat is coded by MATLAB. The heat transfer and dissipation of the spindle is analyzed.Secondly, the model of spindle heat source is built in finite volume method. Regularity of distribution and influence on heat resource of three-dimensional flow is analyzed. The three-dimensional flow is in spiral water channel of motor. Regularity of distribution and influence on heat resource of oil and gas two-phase flow is also analyzed.Lastly but not least, the filed balance experiment is taken to ensure the balance accuracy of the spindle. The effect that the balance accuracy of the spindle takes on temperature rise is studied. In order to formulating reasonable cooling and lubricant parameter, the temperature rise experiment is taken. And this experiment has test and verified the rationality of cooling/lubrication parameters.
