Focusing on the study of logical simulation of substation protective relays, and combining the relay protection basic principle with the characteristics of vc + + object-oriented program design, the improvement logical method is used to establish the relay models. The failure analysis unit and the logic unit is the main composition of the logical simulation, the improvement of simulate models also begin from this part. The achievements include detailed analysis of data structure of protective relay simulation and most importantly, proposal of protective relay simulation model improved by identifying area of relay pickup and improvement of the hierarchical relationship of model table in the data structure to fit the new relay simulation model. In the the logic unit the established protection device model is split to each model table, then the hierarchical relationship and the content of model table is modified. In the failure analysis unit these work is completed: defining the influence scope of fault, employment of Breadth-First-Search method which is improved to fit the paper need, proposal of the tree list which is used to store the search results and to determined the cooperate relationship of the relay, improvement for the analysis of failure type. Finally, in total simulation process a pickup protection level table is established for the convenience of data reading. At the same time another achievements include establishment of data link between primary equipment modules and protective relay modules, application adjacency list for the data storage which include the relay to the child relay and relay to breaker, discussion of the major technical difficulties of building relay models and corresponding solutions. Case study shows that the proposed model is rationally designed and its practical application is promising.
