With the economy growing rapidly, a transformation is occurring that should greatly boost transportation construction in China.Meanwhile construction of highway tunnel,especially super long highway tunnel,is springing up all over the country.It is required by these tunnels that ventilation design and disaster prevention design are more effective than ever before.Fan room as a important part of segment longitudinal ventilation system which become more and more popular seems particularly critical.Tunnel fan room,which was set near the tunnel entrance or near the the wind tower before Nineties of the 20th,is often located underground between ventilation shaft and tunnel.In spite of higher costs,underground fan room is helpful for saving land and protecting the environment.In addition as underground fan room is located near the road in the tunnel,it is easy to maintain the equipment and helpful for staff operation.Until now there is little research on underground fan room, and specification does not detail it.Unlike fan room located on the ground,because of closed environment poisonous gas and dust, which could accumulate in the underground fan room,has influence on staff and equipment. When there is a fire accident in tunnel or underground fan room,it is difficult to rescue and evacuate people for high concentration of gas and high temperature.So it is necessary yet rewarding to do research on underground fan room.Relying on western transportation science and technology project,this paper,which is based on underground fan room of the daxiangling mountains Nibashan tunnel, research on design methods of underground fan room by field test,information collection,model test,theoretical research and computer simulation.It is formulated in this paper which include arrangement principle,environmental control standards,calculation of gas concentration and control method,methods to calculate fire gas concentration and heat,evacuation method,achieving good result in Nibashan tunnel.It is appreciated that this paper could provides engineers and researchers with theoretical reference and technical support.
