Suspendome is a new kind of hybrid structural system. It is a combination of single-layer reticulated dome and pre-stressed cable by applying the concept of tensegrity. It greatly improves the load capability of suspendome. The capability of suspendome is higher than single-layer reticulated dome. Its structural stiffness is also higher than single-layer reticulated dome. Due to this reason, it can across large span. It is a new kind of structural system that can be applied in many fields.First, this thesis introduces the background of suspendome and basic theory, presents the state-of-the art. Then, the article derives finite element analysis equilibrium equation and element rigidity matrix in use of nonlinear finite element method. The paper introduces the resolution method and convergence rule. The problem of nonlinear buckling of suspendome and method of anti-earthquake design is presented.Analysis and calculation are carried out to a suspendome which spans 92meters, after summarizing the general contents about shape analysis, this thesis points out the speciality of shape analysis of suspendome, gives the definitions of zero state, prestress balance state and loading state. By taking account of initial strain, a program in APDL program language running in ANSYS program on tension compensation method and athwart-iteration method is developed, which may successfully get the geometry of zero state from prestress balance state. This accurate calculation model can lay a foundation for the next work. Two types of seismic calculation methods that are response spectrum analysis and time history analysis are used to analyze the seismic response of Kiewitts suspendome under both lateral seismic action and vertical seismic action. The results yielded from above methods are compared.
