Missile body thickness detection technology is a key procedure which determines the quality of the product. With the rapid development of production and science, more rigid requirements are put forward on accuracy and efficiency of thickness detection, according to the geomorphic shape of a specialized sort of missile body, a auto detecting system is achieved to measure the thickness, along with an analysis of the measuring scheme.This article investigated the online method of measuring the thickness of missile body, developed an instrument which uses laser to scan body thickness based on non-contact measurement, realized the real-time collection of data produced during the manufacture of the missile body. Investigation on the geometric shape and the parameters of the missile body was performed, proper measuring algorithms and scheme were determined, including relative measurement of the inner and outer diameter; three-order spline interpolation was performed to fit the profile line; minimum value was employed to calculate the thickness of the testing points. Thus, program algorithms and architecture of the system were simplified, the design of complex structure of sensor probe was avoided, the manufacturing cost was decreased and the efficiency of the measurement was increased.Based on non-contact measurement of the laser scanning measurement and relative measurement principle, this paper analyzed the all the parameters of the missile body to be detected, a practical measurement approach is devised, followed by algorithms for detecting each parameter.
