With the continuous improvement of the technology and the rapid development of economy the common attention of the power supply departments and the consumer are rising. Sensitive equipment can not work normally caused by voltage sags is the main reason for all of the production accidents and economic loss caused by power quality. The monitoring and control for Voltage sags has become an urgent problem for the modern power system. The best way to monitor the voltage sags is installing monitors on all of the system busbars. The power system is an enormous system, which has thousands of busbars. It will be a tremendous cost to install monitors on all of the system busbars, moreover, the huge amounts of monitoring data monitored in this way will be hard to transfer timely. There is no method for optimal monitors allocation formerly. The selection of the monitoring busbars much depends on some guiding principles and the engineering experience. Based on this problem, this paper puts forward a method of voltage sag monitoring optimization by using the linear programming model. Monitoring system will be enable to monitoring voltage sags of the whole system by monitoring the limited nodes got by this method, which provide the possibility to constructed a monitoring system with a much lower cost and a much smaller data redundancy. The research of the system reactive compensator is quite successful now, and many cases have been applied in actual system successfully. Referencing the successful experience of which the method suggested in this paper based on the analysis of exposed areas of voltage sags to optimize the monitoring stations by using the linear programming model. The algorithm overcome the defect that the monitoring range can not cover the whole system and the monitoring system is appropriate for the sole fault type only of the similar research abroad. The method proposed in this paper is tested with IEEE test systems respectively in the request of observability of the whole system and the sensitive busbars only. Byond that this paper attempted to propose a method of voltage sag frequency estimation.
