As the road users, pedestrian and its high accident rate have become public safety and social problems, which be highly paid attention by countries in the world. Many developed countries in west have implemented the pedestrian protection legislation. Especially in Europe which has entered the second phase with more stringent requirements for the pedestrian protection, and new Euro-NCAP will pay more attention to the protection of pedestrians. China is a developing country, the infrastructure is relatively weak, and the people-vehicle mixed traffic situation is complex. A direct result is a higher casualty rate in pedestrian accident. Therefore, how to design front structure of vehicle to improve pedestrian lower limb protection and reduce leg injury possesses great significance.In this paper, computer simulation is used to study pedestrian leg safety, which is an important role in leg and the front of car bumper crash safety research, according to the latest pedestrian protection standards which has been recommendatory implemented. The thesis analyzes the pedestrian protection research situation and development trend at home and abroad, introduces the leg passive protection technology and profiles legform impactor development; On the basis of human vehicle collision characteristics and mechanism of human leg injury, pedestrian safety evaluation criteria as test methods, establishes simplified model of the front car and pedestrian lower limb-the front of car model with HYPERMESH software. Then, the corresponding models are calculated by LS-DYNA software. Next, according to pedestrian protection standards, the paper analyzes the model under the injury evaluation index of the leg (Tibial acceleration, Knee bending angle, Shear displacement). And based on simulation results, increases energy absorbing foam materials on the part of front bumper, reduces bumper height and the amount of bumper protrusion, designs a bumper airbag simulation model. Finally, the improvement program of vehicle front structure is proposed to combine with pedestrian leg crash safety with the car.This research work is beneficial explore to the pedestrian safety protection of our country, summarizes some general beneficial improvement of passive safety design for pedestrian protection, provides effective simulation tools and methods. Research results possess a certain reference and help for pedestrian injury research study.
