Axlebox spring is one of the key parts for rolling stock, it can ease the track irregularity, rail split, rail wear, uneven subsidence as well as the railway car vibration and impact caused by the scotching of wheel, wheel out of round, or eccentric journal. It also can improve the vehicle's stability and comfort, extend the service life of vehicle parts and rail. With the improvement of train speed, the vehicle spring vulnerable to high-speed collision of external objects will damage the surface of spring, make the surface fracture caused by the surface cracks, and ultimately effect the fatigue life of spring. Therefore, research the collision and damage of the vehicle spring which will impact the fatigue life have the important practical significance. In response to this situation, taking the spring in a domestic locomotive as a model, using 60Si2CrVAT spring steel as raw materials, LS-DYNA and MSC.fagtiue finite element software as platform, analyse the situation of the spring by the collision damage, and predict the fatigue life of spring with the surface damaged. Following the work:1. The shape of impactor is cube, the materials are granite, cast iron and aluminum, respectively in the speed of 50m/s,100m/s,150m/s,200m/s,250m/s,300m/s impact the spring, then observe the spring surface, and analyse how the materials effect the length, width and depth of the scar.2. Take the cast iron as the material of impactor and remain unchaged, change the geometrical shape of impactor. Use the ball hit the spring at different speeds, observe the surface damage, and analyse how the geometrical shape effect the length, width and depth of the scar.3. Predict the fatigue life of damaged spring which is impacted by the iron ball at the speed 150m/s, contrast with the fatigue life of whole spring and analyse the two situations. Finally, by analyzing the results, make somes recommendations on protection of the spring.
