Experts predict that China is facing a new period of seismic activity. Bridge engineering is an important part of the transport hub, but in the previous earthquake occurred in varying degrees of damage and lead to more serious secondary disasters. So how to improve the seismic behavior of the bridge has been more attention. Scholars proposed many measures, the viscous dampers is one of them. For the viscous damper, the damping coefficient C and the damping index a are chosen different, viscous dampers on the structural response of different. So analysis and identification of the viscous damper parameters is particularly important. To ensure the installation of the viscous dampers for bridge in earthquake safety, analysis of the damping parameters has great social significance and economic benefits. This paper combines the engineering example of continuous bridge, analysis and researches the parameters of seismic viscous damper. Firstly, this paper describes the working principle of viscous dampers, characteristics, mechanical properties and Installation when it is applied to the bridge, and discusses the theoretical analysis models of viscous damper and their application. Secondly, this paper establishes a practical engineering background dynamic model, and uses the nonlinear time history analysis method, focused on analyzing the damper parameters on the structural seismic response, summarized damping parameters change with the variation of structural seismic response. The standard of selecting better damping parameters is to reduce the bending moment in pier bottom, shear in pier bottom top and relative displacement of pier and beam. Finally, comparing the damping effect, the results show that the viscous dampers can effectively reduce the seismic response, and is an effective damping measure.
