Wubu-zizhou highway is an important part of the state highway main line from QingDao to Yinchuan and Shanxi province(the Q-Y LINE) which is the third of the twelve main trunks in the construction of five vertical and seven horizontal trunk national highways.The Q-Y LINE is about 1600 kilometers from QingDao in the east to Yinchuan in the west traversing ShangDong,HeBei,Shanxi,Shaanxi provinces.The geomorphic unit is a valley sedimentation zone of remaining loess plataeu in the scection of K33+220-K33+560 of the Wubu-zizhou highway.The geological prospecting suggests that there is a lawyer of loess which is ash black and yellow-brown in colour containing muddy loam and in soft plastic-flow plastic state.according to the calculation,there are settlement and stabilizating problems to the embankment including damage of road surface caused by settlement and settlement difference,callapse of embankment resulted by the insufficient ground bearing capacity.In the text,we introduced the whole process of the soft soil test including design,observation,lab test and calculation:Stabilization analysis of high saturated loess embankment;study on regular pattern of settlement and settlement prediction of saturated loess embankment;study on the stress distribution of stone compaction pile and soil in loess.The rusults of the test which fills the gap in the construction of highway in loess areas can be a guidence in the project and a stepping-stone in ground treatment of soft soil in northwest China.
