Stabilization pond as a low-power sewage treatment technology, with a lowconstruction cost, easy maintenance and management, is suitable sewage treatmenttechnology for small cities and towns, but because of the low processing efficiency,large cover area, stink and other shortcomings, its popularization and application islimited. Through the analysis and the summary of operational principle of the existingstabilization pond, add innovative breakthrough in the structural design of stabilizationponds and the combination of anaerobic biological membrane method, adsorptionfiltering method and stabilization pond optimize technology, the author proposes animprovement of Bio-filtration-pond. According to this thought, bio-filtration-pondwas designed and compared with original stabilization pond, extensive experimentshave been conducted under different operational conditions. The results of theexperimental study can be concluded as following.1.By sodium chloride tracer experiment, biological filter pond in theory andpractice of hydraulic retention time HRT alone differs from1hour, while thestabilization pond has a difference of13hours, description of the biological filter pondwith improved structure makes the sewage pond more evenly spread, reducing the poolof dead space and short flow phenomenon, when dealing with the same quantity ofsewage, the biological filtering pond, compared with the traditional stabilization pond,shortens hydraulic retention time.2. Bio-filtration-pond compared with the traditional stabilization pond has strongfunction in COD, NH3-N and TP removal aspects, Bio-filtration-pond has good remo-val efficiency in water flow control test, water depth control test, organic load controltest, so the traditional stabilization pond has obvious advantages.3. When the bio-filtration pond in stable operation, the COD average removal ratecan up to70%, increased by24%compared with traditional stabilization ponds. When the water flow is shifted from0.39L/h to0.27L/h, HRT increased, the bio-filtrationpond COD removal efficiency increased by15%. Debugging of the organic load, whenthe COD influent concentration up to800mg/L, bio-filtration pond compared withtraditional stabilization ponds has obvious advantages, the removal rate can be55%,increased29%, while the stabilization ponds COD removal efficiency is only26%, andthe removal rate is very unstable.4. When the bio-filtration pond is in stable operation, the NH3-N average removalrate is29.8%, only increased13.9%compared to traditional stabilization ponds, thereis no obvious advantage. When water storage depth is6cm and water flow is0.27L/h,NH3-N removal effect is most obvious, if the water storage depth is increased, theeffect will decline, the main reason is when water storage depth is increasing, thebottom of the anaerobic condition is not conducive to nitrification occurred, which hasa certain extent affect the reactor effluent NH3-N concentration.5. Bio-filtration pond TP removal rate was increased21.5%compared to thetraditional stabilization ponds. Removal efficiency of TP is basically maintained atabout51.5%while the system is stable. From the phosphorus biological removalmechanism, it shows that the bio-filtration pond has advantages in the removal ofphosphorus. Due to the change of water distribution of bio-filtration pond, sewage hasto go through anaerobic-anoxic-aerobic process, provides better conditions forphosphorus release and uptake of phosphorus removal bacteria.6. Adjusting and controlling the influential factors of bio-filtration pond duringthe operation shows that the better operating conditions is water storage depth of6cmand the water flow is0.27L/h in the debugging process of the bio-filtration pond. Atthis time, bio-filtration pond COD removal rate is75%,NH3-N removal rate is34.5%,TP in removal rate is54.6%.
