At present, numerical simulation of complex, multiphase system instirred reactor based on commercial software such as Fluent is faced withmany difficulties, such as lacking of new models, parameter modificationlimited and low computational efficiency. OpenFOAM is an outstandingopen-source CFD code, which is compiled and development with C++language. It is free, open and extensible, with solid foundation, flexiblepre-and post-processing utilities, parallelly computation capbility. Theseadvantages make it a fantastic research platform. Researches can makefull use of it on all levels and effectively focus on one particular level, which makes their work more efficient and continuous. Now it is popularin many foreign universities and research institutions. Therefore this paper explores the OpenFOAM software andresearches the incompressible flow field around blunt body based on theflow and separation phenomenon occurring in radial flow stirred reactor. Content is as follows:(1) OpenFOAM is compiled, studied and verified.(2) A back-ward step flow is studied with five RNAS models andtwo DES models. Different models and algorithms are evaluated.(3) The flow around a square column is simulated with one DESmodel and two URNAS models. The three models are evaluated. This paper aims to compile and study the open source CFD platform:OpenFOAM. Based on OpenFOAM, some incompressible flows werepredicted with different CFD methods. The work of this paper haspractical meanings in numerical simulation of complex, multiphasesystem in stirred reactor and development of new independent program.
