Crude tall oil residue is the waste from crude tall oil which is one of the by-products in pink kraft pulping industry after it was sepatated, because of its deep color, complex composition and other characteristics, therefore it has not been effectively utilized until now.This paper established the methods for determinating the main components of crude tall oil residue, such as the acid value, the resin acids content, the fatty acids content, unsaponification content, and alkali lignin. The foaming and the dispersing performances on cement paste of modified crude tall oil residue by using different chemical modification methods were studied in this paper.1) According to the methods, saponofication method was used to measure the content of acid value in the experiment, and the methanol-sulfuric acid method was used to measure the content of resin acid and fatty acid, and diethyl ether was used to extract the unsaponification, and the ethanol was used to separate the alkali lignin.2) The results showed that the moisture content of wet crude tall oil residue is37.78%, and the acid value of wet crude tall oil residue is72.19mg KOH/g, and the resin acid content of wet crude tall oil residue is21.80%, and the fatty acid content of wet crude tall oil residue is15.98%, and the unsaponification content of wet crude tall oil residue is3.27%, and the rough alkali lignin content of wet crude tall oil residue is29.77%, and the alkali lignin content acid-precipitated of wet crude tall oil residue is18.23%.3) After the evaluation and selection of modification methods, the foaming and the dispersing performances on cement paste modified crude tall oil residue by using different chemical modification methods was studied in the experiment. The optimum technology is as follows:The saponification conditions:temperature80℃, time1.5h, saponifier agent5%. The catalytic oxidation conditions: temperature80℃, time1.5h, oxidizing agent3%, catalytic agent0.3%. The sulfonation conditions:temperature95℃, time2h, sulfonating agent10%. 4) As the ratio of water to cement was0.40, the fluidity of blank cement paste was129.5mm, after adding mixing modified sample and catalytin oxidizing modified sample, the fluidity of cement paste increased, the results showed that all the modified crude tall oil residues by using catalytic oxidation and mixing modification have a certain dispersing performance on cement paste. With the increasing of the dosage of the modified sample, their dispering performance increased, and the dispersing performance of mixing modified sample was better than that of catalytic oxidizing modified sample.5) The foaming performance of mixing modified sample and catalytin oxidizing modified sample is good, but the foaming performance of Sodium Alcohol Ether Sulphate and LAS is better than the foaming performance of mixing modified sample and catalytin oxidizing modified sample, the foaming performance of the catalytin oxidizing modified sample is better than the foaming performance of the mixing modified sample.6) As the dosage is0.5%, its dispersing performance was very good. As time goes by, the fluidity loss of naphthalene increased. After adding0.1%,0.2%and0.5%mixing modified sample, the dispersing performance of composite sample increased, and fluidity loss of cement paste added composite sample reduced, the result provided a theory basis for the application of modified crude tall oil residue.7) As the solid content of modified residue sample solution prepared was32.1%, its dispersing performance was good, but its foaming performance was bad. With the increasing of the solid content of modified residue sample prepared, the foaming performance increased, but when the solid content increased more than51.5%, the foaming performance reduced, and the dispersing performance reduced too.The above research results gave certain instruction to the modification of crude tall oil residue and the application as water-reducer and air-entraining agent in concrete, and provided a theory basis and a technical support for the application of crude tall oil residue.
