This thesis deals with the modification of ground tyre rubber powder(GTRP).The disposal of worn tyres and their economic recycling mean a great challenge nowadays. Material recycling is a preferred way in many country owing to legislative actions and ecological arguments. This first step with worn tyres is already done in this direction as GTRP is available in different fractions in guaranteed quality. As the traditional applications of GTRP are saturated, there is a great demand for less decreasing properties containing more amount of GTRP. So, the step one of this work was to figure out what is the best way of GTRP applications as the filling (material) for NR compounds and not to reduce its properties much. In order to do this, the experiment planned to put the species of GTRP, carbon black content, sulfur content, Mooney visocisity of matrigel and the sequence of feeding additive under consideration. The results showes that the particle size of quadric plasticied GTRP in NR matrix was comparative uniform, and the surface roughness of which was significantly increased. It was mainly reflected on the longer'burr'and the increasing sunken holes. As the amount of carbon black was 30 phr, the amount of sulfur was 3.5 phr and mixing GTRP with 1.5 phr sulfur before compounding, the mechanical properties of vulcanized rubber were the best. But Mooney visocisity of matrigel did't affect the performance much.The step of this work was to modify GTRP by reactive blending with modifying agents, filled into natrue rubber(NR) compounds, then tested its mechanical properties. As the results proved, the mechanical properties of the compounds contained modified GTRP were much better than those which contained un-modified GTRP; The vulcanizates contained GTRP modified by thermal-mechanical, peptizer, tackifying resin, sulfur(S) and accelerator M(MBT) all showed the better performance, especially when the modified processing set as faster rotate speed of rotor(60rpm) and higher temperature(100-120oC), the modified effect was optimum. Even more, the SEM picyures taken in broken surface of tensile samples, the attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared and Roman Spectromete(ATR-FTIR) curves, the plots of TG and DTG, the kinetics of vulcanization and the dynamic properties analysis also showed the exactly the same conclusion as this thesis proved earlier.It has been established that GTRP covered with nature rubber latex(NRL) prior to compound with NR matrix is a promising way of GTRP-contained production. By this way the mechanical propertis of GTRP-NR compounds increases and the GTRP can be better incorporated in the corresponding NR matrix. The adhesion between GTRP and matrix is given by molecular intermingling in the resulting interphase. The methods of GTRP modified and its modified processing were involved in this study. The results showed that the mechanical properties of GTRP covered with NRL is better than the one before NRL covering and so did the modified one. Surprisingly, the tearing strength has more amplitude than other properties, especially for the GTRP modified by peptizer 9203/WG and its modified processing set as Haake(60rpm/120oC), the optimum properties can be showed.
