Water-based varnish is the current focus of research and development, because of its environmental friend, low-cost, easy transportation, product quality stable. The paper packaging of water-based varnish is widely used for food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic. In 2003, China experienced the invasion of SARS and bird flu test, people are increasingly demanding public health. If the antimicrobial agent to join the varnish, only one process can also achieve the varnish coating and anti-bacterial function, will produce huge economic and social benefits.In this study, styrene (St), methyl methacrylate (MMA), butyl acrylate (BA), hydroxypropyl methacrylate (HPMA), acrylic acid (AA) as the main raw material, the application of seed emulsion polymerization, by optimizing the synthesis process, adjusting the mix formula, developed a styrene-acrylic emulsion can be used as water-based varnish. Using TEM, FT-IR and other test methods, in-depth analysis and discussion of temperature, initiator, monomer and polymerization processes, such as carboxyl stirring speed, buffer and other factors on the emulsion properties.Styrene-acrylic emulsion with the synthetic antibacterial agent TIO-NP100 (nitrogen-doped titanium dioxide powder) re-dubbed anti-bacterial water-based varnishl, through qualitative methods, namely the pre-experimental and quantitative determination of minimum inhibitory concentration method, refer to the Japanese national industry Standard JIS Z 2801-2000 experimental method for the determination of water-based antimicrobial varnish Gram-negative bacteria E, coli and Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus antibacterial rate. Finally, white card paper coated by water-based antimicrobial varnish, tested against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacterial rate, get a water-based antimicrobial varnish white card paper in the actual antimicrobial effect.The study found that the monomer ratio m (St): m (MMA): m (BA): m (HPMA): m (AA) is 46:11:38:3:2, the polymerization temperature at 80 ~ 82℃, Potassium persulfate as the initiator, the amount of 0.6%, the preparation of water-based varnish was the smaller particle size, blue, with good stability and good performance. Self-made water-based varnish configuration aqueous antimicrobial varnish has antimicrobial exposure time was 48h antibacterial best when TIO-NP100 concentration of 1%, the water-based antimicrobial varnish on Staphylococcus aureus antibacterial rate of 95.51 %; when TIO-NP100 concentration of 0.8%, the water-based antimicrobial varnish on the antibacterial rate of Escherichia coli 96.83%.
