With the rapid development of economy and the improvement of people's living standard, energy consumption is ever-increasing. At the same time, energy problem has already become the main factor constraining economic development. And as a renewable energy, biomass energy has a big storage and it could convert to biomass syngas by gasification progress. But there are large amount of tar in biomass syngas, which become the bottleneck of used effectivity. As a result, it is very important for utilization of biomass to study purification of tar which was attracted by many re-searchers.This paper takes toluene as a model compound of tar, and methane as a model compound of low hydrocarbon. We mainly studied the performance of the Ni-based catalysts in steam reforming of toluene or methane. We studied the effects of carriers on performance of Ni-based catalysts in steam reforming of toluene. It was found that the activity and stability of catalyst were af-fected by the interaction between Ni species and the carrier. The formation of nickel magnesian solid solution and nickel aluminum spinel is good for dispersion of Ni on the surface of catalysts, and the activity of catalysts could be improved by high dis-persion of Ni. The conversation of toluene almost reached to 100% at 700℃. And we also found Ni/MgO catalysts showed better stability than Ni/Al2O3.The influence of calcination temperature and content of Nion the performance of Ni/MgO catalysts was studied, and we found that the activity of the catalysts was re-lated to the reduction amount of Ni. The influence of MgO and Si/Al ration on the performance of Ni/HZSM was also studied, and from this study we found that the sta-bility of catalyst was affected by the acidity. On the study of methane and toluene reforming on the Ni/MgO catalyst in bio-mass syngas atmosphere, we found that the Ni/MgO catalysts showed good perfor-mance in steam reforming of toluene and methane. Futher more we can adjust the mole ratio of H2/CO in products to appropriate proportion by controlling the amount of composition of raw material. The influence of carriers on the performance of Ni-based catalysts was also stu-died on this paper, and we found that the acidity of carrier was good for steam re-forming of methane.
