The furnace in the rolling mill is a key technical link affecting the entire rolling line production costs and the quality of the products. Due to the diversity of the working conditions, some main thermal parameters for the furnace cannot be directly or continuously tested (for example, the temperature changing process as the billet in the furnace), resulting in frequent overburning or undersintering during the production. The mathematical model can be used to study and describe the furnace through the mathematical language. Meanwhile, it is followed by working out the numercial solution to the differential equations generated in the description course. This step can be carried out by using mathematical resolving and numerical value analysis. Above technique clearly illustrates how to use the mathematical tools to achieve the simulation studies about the furnace heating process. In the modern steel industry, studying and employing the mathematical furnace model has become a hot topic.This article mainly introduces a self-developed level-two furnace model, including its main components and the innovative technology differing from the traditional three-dimensional temperatuer technique. Through establishing a three-dimensional heating transferring mathematical model and applying finite difference method (FDM) and DELPHI7.0 software, it is able to do a simulation calculation about dynamic temperature distribution of the billets at the different positions of the furnace and different timing. The results can be displayed through x, y, z three directions and various sections, offering the technical staffs an abundant database for analysis. During the billets heating process, the system uses the "black box" on-line temperature detecting device to carry out a number of test for the temperature distribution and to verify the calculating results and to adjust the model parameters and to optimize and improve the systemic model. The production by the furnace can be well observed, controlled and predicated.The application of the level-two furnace model will develop the production mode.Operators can monitoring the conditions of the slab through model picture. Using this technology, we can successfully achieve onlin application, reducing the losses caused by oxidation and the possibility of reworking. We can make the fuel consuming be batter controled.
