Graphene is a rapidly rising star on the horizon of materials science and condensed-matter physics. Due to its unique physical, chemical and mechanical properties, graphene has extensive applications in the design of devices of nanoelectronics, catalysis, batteries, supercapacitors, optoelectronics, novel composite materials and sensing materials. In this paper, large-scale synthesis of graphene from graphite was produced by electrolytic exfoliation using sodium tetrafluoroborate as an effective electrolyte. The obtained graphene material was characterized by SEM,TEM,XRD,XPS and AFM. The graphene sheets can be homogeneously distributed in water and various organic matrices without any surfactants or other stabilizers. The conductivity of the graphene sheets can reach as high as 1428.57 S/m. Reaction mechanisms were inferred. The as-prepared graphene was developed for absorption studies of Pb(â…¡) or Cd(â…¡) ions. Effects of solution pH, contact time, initial concentration were also investigated. From these we can find the best conditions for adsorption. With the assistance of ultrasonic, the determined adsorption capacities are 621 mg/g (pH=5.5) for Pb(â…¡) and 134.4 mg/g (pH=6.2) for Cd(â…¡), which are much better than shake. In addition, we prepared two carbon materials (CS, CP) by electrolytic exfoliation using sulphuric acid or phosphoric acid as electrolytes, and then the as-prepared materials were developed for absorption studies of Pb(â…¡) or Cd(â…¡) ions.
