Conveyor belt breaking accident happens now and then, especially with the belt conveyor with high-speed, long range, or large angle. The conveyor belt under tremendous vertical tension are accident-prone. Once the belt breaking accident occurs, hundreds or even over one thousand metres of conveyor belt together with its load of materials will slide down to the tail of belt conveyor on the role of gravity, damaging the rack, blocking roadways, and even causing casualties. To avoid significant losses caused by this critical problem, researches on the belt breaking issue are needed.Conveyor belt is a key component to the belt conveyor, and is also the main target of the research of belt breaking issue. The dynamic viscoelastic properties of the conveyor belt is analyzed, and a dynamic model of the conveyor belt is built for computer simulation of the process of belt breaking. This paper did comprehensive analysis to the belt breaking process, from the determination of where the breaking incident take place, to the dynamic analysis of the broken belt, and the calculation of the arresting force. After a new type of broken-belt catcher based on the theoretical analysis, a three-dimensional model of the broken-belt catcher was established, and the finite element stress analysis to the key structure of the model was completed. Finally, a comprehensive test-bed for the broken-belt catcher was built, the performance test of the broken-belt catcher were carried out, and the experimental results were analyzed. |
