| Superfine SiO2 particle is an important inorganic chemical products with good heat resistance and high strength, and is widely used for making SiO2/polymer blend composites. But because of high surface activity and the exsits of hydroxy on SiO2, the tendency of the particles to aggregate is strong, which lead to a poor compatiblity with organic polymer like PET..Tn this paper, three kinds of SiO2 particals with different sizes (micron, submicron, nanometer) were choosen and the structure changes before and after the surface modification with a coupling agent KH570 were charactierized and compared using infrared spectrum (IR), thermogravimetric_analysis (TG),energy disperse spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. SiO2 partical/PET blends were prepared by in-situ polymerization and the dispersion of the particles into the PET were evaluated using scanning electron microscope (SEM).The results showed that the grafting reactions were occurred between the coupling agent and the particles of different sizes and the dispersion in PET matrix were found well improved after the surface modification. |
