The study on multi-impurity, low crystallization point and discoloration of phenol were carried out in this paper. The analytic procedure of organic impurities in phenol was established, which is pretreatment of advanced samples—Solid Phase Microextraction (SPME). Gas chromatography-mass spectrum procedure is used to analyze the organic impurities during the process of phenol refinement, contrast the analytic results and research the problems in process control. According to the generation mechanism and properties of the organic impurities in phenol, the process conditions of oxidation and decomposition to reduce secondary reactions and the amount of by-product were optimized. The technical process of ammonia addition reaction and phenol refinement by ion exchange resin were investigated. The technical process of ammonia addition reaction was also optimized and the phenol refinement by ion exchange resin was simulated. The important parameter of refinement by ion exchange resin to make sure the optimum operating conditions was obtained. The causes of influence on quality of phenol product were checked out by the numbers. The improved measures of the process as technical basis for producing high purity phenol were put forward.
