Abstract/Summary:
Schiff base and its complexes are widely used in the fileds of biology, material and catalysis etc. Two Schiff base ligands which are derived from L-tyrosine-salicylaldehyde (HSTK),β-alanine-vanilin (HVATK) have been prepared, and eight coordination compounds of rare earth europium or transition metal copper with ligands have been synthesized. Some hetero atom-containing ligands such as 8-hydroquinoline,1,10-phenanthroline are involved due to their planar configuration, which may be beneficial to the bioacticities of the coordination compounds. The ligands and complexs were characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, UV spectroscopy, molar conductance analysis and TG-DTG analysis. The suggested structures of the complexes were concluded. The antibacterial activities of the complexes were evaluated by the agar-diffusion method and Minimum Inhibitory concentration method. The antibacterial activities testing showed that all the complexes exhibited excellent antibacterial ability against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis with broad antimicrobial spectrums. Experiments indicate that the antibacterial ability was positively correlated with concentration and the complex should generally have a higher antibacterial activity than ligand. The composite materials geted by mixed the copper complexes with the pure PMMA. The antibacterial activities of the composite materials were evaluated and the result show that the composite materials exhibited excellent antibacterial ability. Along with the increase of copper complexes, the antibacterial activities enhanced. But when the number reached 3%, the antibacterial rate is not increased.
