Polyaniline-montmorillonite (PANI-MMT) composites were prepared by in-situ polymerization in this paper. The structure and the properties of the materials were studied by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), fourier infrared (FT-IR) and thermal analysis (TGA). The results show that the polyaniline and montmorillonite compound together well, and the part of polyaniline macromoleculars intercalated into the montmorillonite layers, increasing the layer spacing of montmorillonite. The polyaniline-montmorillonite compounds as a natural rubber new reinforcing agent add to replace carbon black, improving the performance of natural rubber. Polyaniline-montmorillonite/natural rubber (PANI-MMT/NR) nanocomposites were prepared by a mixing intercalation method, and the mechanical properties were tested. Besides, several factors such as vulcanizing time, polyaniline content, vulcanizing accelerator type and polyaniline-montmorillonite content were compared and analyzed respectively. The results are as follows. When polyaniline/montmorillonite was less than 40 phr, the comprehensive effect of vulcanizing accelerator CZ is better than vulcanizing accelerator M. The best vulcanization time of nanocomposites is 10 minutes when choose vulcanizing accelerator CZ. The mechanical properties of the nanocomposites increased gradually with increasing of polyaniline content. When the polyaniline content is 20%, the mechanical properties are the best. And the mechanical properties of nanocomposites are best, when polyaniline/ montmorillonite in add 20 phr.The composites with polyaniline-montmorillonite contents 20% polyaniline or general purpose furnace black (N660) as rubber reinforcing agents are prepared respectively. The mechanical properties are contrasted. PANI-MMT/NR nanocomposites are studied by XRD, SEM and TGA. The reinforcing effect of polyaniline-montmorillonite is better than N660. when polyaniline-montmorillonite was 20 phr, the composites not only formed intercalated nano structure but also thermal stability is improved, and the mechanical properties are better than those of adding 40 phr N660. Composites with different blending ratio of PANI-MMT/ N660 were prepared. When blending ratio of PANI-MMT/N660 was 20/20, comprehensive mechanical properties are the best. Therefore polyaniline/montmorillonite parts replaced carbon black as rubber new reinforcing agent has a good prospect.
