Titanium is a kind of innoxious metal with high strength and low density, and it shows excellent property of corrosion resistance. The property of the epoxy coating with titanium particles will be improved. But the terrible compatibility between the particles and the coatings is the reason why the coatings develop slowly.Polymers modified by Ti are prepared during high energy ball milling by mechanochemistry with liquid epoxy, solid epoxy and polyamide. Laser particle analyzer, IR, determination of contact angle, and sedimentation experiment were employed to analyze the effect of the modified.The results show that the grafting molecule chains modified by the liquid epoxy are combined with the functional groups on particle surfaces via chemical bonds. The dispersion and compatibility of the product in organic solution are improved. But the particle of the product are still micron size. Modification by the solid epoxy or polyamide can not only make the particle surfaces combined with the grafting molecule chains, but also make the product to nanometer dimension.Corrosion resistance coatings are made by dispersing modified polymers by Ti into epoxy resin. The anti-corrosion properties of the films are characterized by water absorption and EIS in 3.5% NaCl solution. The surface morphology of the coatings is observed by SEM. The results demonstrated that when the modified Ti was added to the coating, the properties of the coatings are all improved. For polyamide-modified Ti coating, the water absorption increased a little but the corrosion resistance increased more than the other coatings during the middle and later stages of corrosion. It shows better performance in anti-corrosion than liquid epoxy-modified Ti coating and solid epoxy-modified Ti coating. When the content of solid epoxy-modified Ti and polyamide-modified Ti is decreased to 1%, the corrosion resistance of the coatings is improved. It tells that the content of the modified Ti has an impact on the performance of the coating.
