Since the ball mill was invented, it has widely used in many departments, such as metallurgical industry, medical plant, chemical industry, ceramic industry, cement plant, architectural industry, power industry and national departments and so on, especially in the mineral processing plant of metallurgical industry. Ball mill is the major equipment in mineral comminuting, it plays an important part in mineral processing industry. The quality of grinding production directly affects the economic and technical index of the mineral processing plant, while operation efficiency and the ability of dealing with run-of-mine ore of the mineral processing plant is actually the productivity and processing ability. Improving grinding efficiency of the ball mill can improve the overall economic benefit, therefore, it is very important for improving the grinding efficiency and enhancing the technical and economic targets and saving energy to study the factors which influence grinding efficiency.There are many factors which influence grinding efficiency, such as the rotate speed rate, liner structure, liner materials, mine properties, grinding media, media filling rate, ball to powder ration, the ball ratio and grinding machine structure and so on. Media filling rate and ball to powder ration are selected in this paper, analyze them influence on grinding effect through experiments and simulation. Firstly the paper detailed introduces the related theory knowledge of the ball mill, which provides theoretical basis and lays a theoretical foundation for experimental research and simulation in later chapter.Using to the experimental prototype, the experiment selects media filling rate respectively 0.3,0.4, and ball to powder ration respectively 0.6,0.8,1.0, analyzes the-200mesh product cumulative in grinding minerals under different conditions, then get an optimum media filling rate and ball to powder ration in a certain rotate speed rate. Using discrete element simulation software PFC3D in simulation, firstly the software is used to create model for experimental prototype, then simulate for experimental prototype in different media filling rate according to experimental parameters, analyze the kinematic regularity of media by simulation results, finally compare and analyze the simulation results and experimental results.Based on experimental research and simulation to analyze media filling rate and ball to powder ration influence on the grinding effect, this method not only has accurate and reliable theory foundation, but also provide reference basis for practical production, and provide reference place for improving the grinding efficiency of the ball mill.
