Activated Carbon have developed pore structure, surface area and adsorption capacity, and can remove environment pollutants efficiency. Brewing yeast is a type of fungi, which is rich in carbon.Brewing yeast was used as raw material to prepare Powdered Activated Carbon(PAC), Granular Activated Carbon(GAC) and Powder Activated Carbon supported Manganese(Mn/PAC). Methylene Blue(MB) solution simulated dye wastewater, toluene simulated Volatile Organic Compounds(VOCs)was used to evaluate adsorption and catalytic degradation performance of these three activated carbon.Take NaOH impregnated brewing yeast to make for PAC, then study the effect of activation temperature, activation time, mass ratio of brewing yeast and NaOH in the adsorption performance of PAC. The best activation time, activation temperature and mass ration of brewing yeast and NaOH were found from orthogonal experiment are 4h, 550℃, 10:2, the surface area of PAC made by the best activation factor is 670m2/g, total pore volume is 0.387ml/g, average pore diameter is 2.3nm. From the result of FT-IR analysis, we found there are–OH, NH3, C=O and other functional groups exist in the surface of PAC, from XRD analysis that PAC mainly constituted by the amorphous carbon, the maximum adsorption capacity to MB is 392.0±22.1mg/g. Use sodium silicate as the binder made Granular Activated Carbon (GAC), then research adsorption performance of GAC and the maximum adsorption capacity to MB is 65.47±4.542mg/g.Toluene simulated VOCs was used to evaluate the adsorption performance of PAC and GAC. The adsorption of toluene by PAC and GAC reached a balance in 2h, the maximum adsorption capacity of PAC is 76.37±7.98mg/g, the maximum adsorption capacity of GAC is 41.20±1.616mg/g. The adsorption of toluene is better than benzene, after desorption in high temperature, PAC can be recycled and reused.Mn/PAC was made from brewing yeast which adsorbed Mn2+, then impregnated in NaOH to prepare Mn/PAC, the adsorption and surface area of Mn/PAC are inferior than PAC, from XRD,XPS and TEM analysis the compounds load in PAC is MnO2, PAC and Mn/PAC were used in catalytic oxidation experiment as catalyst, Mn/PAC and PAC were advantageous for TOC removal of MB solution compared with single ozonaion, and the greatest TOC removal efficiency was obtained in the presence of Mn/PAC. All ozonaion reactions followed the pseudo-second-order kinetics model well, the degradation rate of MB was enhanced in the presence of catalysts, and the most pronounced degradation rate was achieved in O3/Mn/PAC system. The rate constants were determined to be 0.0002/(mg·min) for O3/Mn/PAC, 0.00006L/ (mg·min) for O3 alone and 0.0001L/ (mg·min) for O3/PAC.
