Laminated plates of composite materials, duo to their excellent structure and mechanics properties, have found wide application in modern aircrafts. Especially, piezoelectric materials, as a new kind of smart materials with good properties of the electro-mechanical coupling effects, have been received more interests in engineering. Therefore, it is of theoretical and practical importance to study the mechanics properties and application of piezoelectric composite structures. Based on the classical theories of beams and plates,problems on deflection control of beams and laminated composite plates with piezoelectric patches under electric field are studied. The main contents presented are given as follows:In Chapter 1, presented are the introduction to piezoelectric materials, four types of piezoelectric equations and their applications.In Chapter 2, starting from one-dimension case, deflection of beams with piezoelectric patches symmetrically arranged under electric field is analyzed. Based on the classical beam theory, deflections of a cantilevered beam and simple-supported beam with one pair of piezoelectric patches under electric loading are discussed, and the analytic solutions and numerical results are presented, respectively. Then numerical examples are given to discuss the influences of location, size and applied voltage of piezoelectric patches on the deflection.In Chapter 3, the studies in Chapter 2 are extended to the case of the two dimensions, that is, deflection of laminated composite plates with piezoelectric plates under electric field is studied. Based on the classical laminated plate theory, deflection of a four-layer laminated plate with piezoelectric patches is discussed. Finally, theoretical solutions and numerical solutions are presented.In Chapter 4, deflection of laminated plate with one pair of piezoelectric patches under electric field is studied, and theoretical solutions and numerical results are given by Heaviside function. Then, numerical examples are presented to discuss the influences of size of piezoelectric patches on the deflection.Finally, this work is concluded, and future works on the topic are proposed in Chapter 5.
