The characteristics of limestone desulfurization process in China are different due to lack of a standard procedure to select the limestone. Thus, investigation to propose a composite index to evaluate the limestone reactivity in desulfurization process is crucial to improve the desulfurization efficiency and to reduce the operational cost.The pyrolysis characteristics curve of 18 limestone samples were analyzed by using the measurements from limestone decomposition experiments. The pyrolysis kinetic parameters were calculated using multiple linear regression correlation with R﹥0.99. The impact of limestone chemical constituents on desulfurization reactivity was investigated. It does seem that a higher limestone desulfurization reactivity occurred by increasing the CaO content, whereas higher MgO and SiO2 content reduced the reactivity. The impact of SiO2 was more significant compared to the MgO.The composite index to evaluate the limestone reactivity in desulfurization process was proposed by using the limestone utilization ratio A, reaction ratio K and SO2 removal efficiency G. The limestone with excellent desulfurization reactivity should meet the requirements: A﹥0.55, K﹥1.75×10-2min-1, G﹥75.0%, multiple score T﹥0.8.In addition, the computer model for multiple evaluation of limestone desulfurization reactivity was developed in order to distinguish characteristics of limestone.
