With the growth of population and development of society and economy, the shortage of water resource and the damage of water environment have become the worldwide serious problems. It has significant meaning to study on water environment carrying capacity (WECC) to optimize the configuration of the water environment, also to coordinate the relationship among construction of regional ecology, lives of people, production of industry and agriculture and water environment.The method of system dynamic (SD) is used to establish the SD model of river WECC of Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal in Suzhou National New & Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone (SND). Combine with the characteristics of the society, economic and the water environment in study area applied to the SD model, and propose to the strategy and optimization of improving the WECC. It can provide the scientific basis or reference for improving the regional WECC, and further, it can enrich the study of the regional WECC in Suzhou.The main results of this research are as follows:(1) On the basis of the carrying medium and objects of the regional WECC, the targets and indicators is established. And the index weight is determined by AHP. Combing with the method of modular addition, the coordination between the WECC and development of social and economic is characterized by bearing degrees, and a complete system of quantitative models of WECC is formed.(2) On the basis of the theoretical study of the water environment capacity, it select the appropriatethe model of calculating the regional water environmental capacity, and combining with the hydrology, water quality and other information, the water environmental capacity is calculated.(3) Construct system dynamic model of WECC in the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal (SND) by improving in the original quantitative model of water environment. The model considers the factors of economic, social and environmental and many other aspects.(4) Simulate and analyse the current situation and future trends of the regional WECC by using the established model of system dynamic. The measures and programs are proposed to improve the WECC based on the study of the WECC, different scenarios are simulated, and finally, the reasonable optimization of WECC is proposed.
