Wide-format digital inkjet printer is a kind of inkjet print equipment with high electromechanical integration, which has complex system construction and much technical difficulty, involved with such science subjects as machinery, power electronics, motor drive, image processing and data communication. With our society's development, the application field of wide-format inkjet print production has been broadened continuously, the need of it has been increasing growth, and the usage has been more and more comprehensive, which means a good market prospect. Therefore, it is of significant meaning to study and develop high function and high cost performance wide-format digital inkjet printer.On account of current, at home and abroad, deficiency in motion control system and raster image processor (RIP) system of wide-format digital inkjet printer, as well as its related technique's developing direction in future, this paper, in combination with the project of research on wide-format digital inkjet printer (a project financed by Chongqing Science and Technology Tackling Plan), analyze the mechanical structure, work principle and procedure of wide-format digital inkjet printer. Especially, the motion control system based on FPGA and raster image processor system has been researched and designed. In the end, a sample wide-format digital inkjet printer with high function and high cost performance has been designed.The mechanical structure and motion control requirement of current main trend wide-with digital inkjet printer'paper advance mechanism, paper feed mechanism (a subsidiary mechanism of paper advance mechanism) and the stitch mechanism has been studied in this paper, and the motion control plan and strategy of paper advance mechanism and stitch mechanism has then been provided. For paper advance mechanism, the detailed driving design and acceleration and deceleration design of paper advance stepping motor have been completed. For stitch mechanism, stitch brushless DC motor's acceleration and deceleration design and speed feedback's PID control design have been accomplished.This paper considers the function of RIP system for an wide-format digital inkjet printer, working principles and three crucial key technologies: digital image color separation technology, digital image amplification technology, digital image halftoning technique. Based digital image ICC Profile separation method is designed for the digital image color separation technology , and after the color separation image the cubic spline curve using to the color adjustment and saturation correction. Cubic convolution interpolation method is design for digital image magnification technology, whose performance and speed have been optimized specifically for algorithms. For digital image halftoning technique design a template based on the ordered dithering halftone digital image matrix algorithm, and consider the screen angle problem of C, M, Y, K colors component.Experimental results show the steadiness of the FPGA based motion control architecture, which can meet the wide-format digital inkjet printer demanding requirements of printing operations, and the propose RIP system performance very well ,and reach the expected objects, has broad application prospects.
