Design and synthesis seven new metal– organic complexes derived from 4-(imidazole-1-yl) benzonic acid and 4-(2-imidazol-1-yl) benzonic acid, [CdCl(IBA)(H2O)]n (1), [CdN3(IBA)]n (2), [Cd(CH3COO) (IBA)]n (3),[Cu(IBA)2·(H2O)]n (4),[Cu(MIBA)0.5.4(H2O)]n (5),[Cd(MIBA)2]n (6) and [Zn (MIBA)0.5.4(H2O)]n (7). The structural analyses of complexes 1, 2 and 3 show, the bridging anions plan an important role in the framwork construction. Complex 1 is a 1D chain structure, while that of 2 is a two-folded interpenetrated 3D network , and 3 with a 2D network. The analyses of sturctural difference between complexes 4 and 5 show, that the methyl group also has an important influnce in the newwork. The space group of complexes 6 and 7 is non– central. The second-order optical property studies show that both of the complexes have second-order optical properties, with the strenghth about 1.1 or 0.8 times of KDP.
