This paper established a set of comprehensive quantitative evaluation system of faultseal through quantitative analysis of the various effects which are confirmed, and put forwardconstructive factors which include fault rock seal or juxtaposition seal and cemented seal, anddestructive factors which include the architecture of fault zone and geometry and kinesiologycharacters of faults. Meanwhile the Quantitative standard of evaluation for the four maineffects has been established. So there is significant improvement in this new evaluationmethod of fault seal.On the basis of understanding of tectonic and sedimentary characteristics of Tanandepression, the new method has been utilized to evaluate the faults in the main oil-bearingformation--Tongbomiao formation. There are high content of sand in this formation wherethe reservoir is mainly structural, and the fault is the main factor which control thedistributions of petroleum. Through the evaluation of several fault–related trap, there is nocementation seal but the juxtaposition and fault rock seal, and the fault rock seal capacity ismuch weaker than the former's, and decide the final hydrocarbon-water contact depth. We select the outcropping of the Library Power Group on the lower Cretaceoussandstone formations at the edge of Hailar Basin. And the characteristics of fault zone and itsarchitectures have been described and utilized to evaluate the fault seal capacity in which wefound the seal capacity of part of faults were affected obviously by them. We analysised themacroscopic effects besides micro ones, and identified the relationship between the period offault activity and petroleum accumulation. The macroscopic distribution of faults has beencorrected and the fault stability has been evaluated, and we work out that the two factors haveno effect on the petroleum accumulation, but the efficiency of some traps is destroyed byactivation faults after the accumulation period to a certain extent.
