A Ms7.3scale earthquake occurred in Yutian area, Xinjiang Uygur AutonomousRegion, China, on March21,2008is the biggest earthquake after the Ms8.1scaleearthquake happened in Kunlun mountain, November,2001. Earthquake isconcentrated reflection of tectonic activity, it can be accompanied by a large surfacedeformation and apparent fracture events, it can zoom the normal activities way ofconstruct. Coseismic deformation is the effect directly reflected in the surface, it isvery important for understanding of the nature of earthquake faulting and researchingadjacent tectonic activity. In the harsh natural environment of northwestern margin ofthe Tibetan Plateau, the conventional methods can not carry out timely and effectivefor the field earthquake coseismic deformation measurement, so the advantages ofInSAR technique have be highlighted. This article describes the InSAR observationprinciple, then gotten Yutian earthquake Co-seismic InSAR deformation field byPALSAR and ALOS radar data, and presents4geological results:(1) Yutian Ms7.3earthquake macroscopic epicenter is located in the two north-south branches ofKangxiwar Fault southeast(Large tamarisk Fault and Mousse Hill Fault) and the threebranches of the triangle intersection which in Altyn Tagh Fault southwest;(2) Yutianearthquake triggered a coseismic surface rupture which in Altyn Tagh FaultNS-trending branch, and the length of the rupture is25.6km;(3) It is speculation thatYutian fault focal mechanism solutions is the normal fault under the deformed imageof the interference radar, faults incline to west, the maximum range of motion on theplate over200cm;(4) The tectonic stress around the two big faults intersection whereYutian earthquake occurred is mainly press in North and South direction.
