Jadeite is a kind of precious jade, high-quality jadeite is very valuable. In recent years, the market of jadeite is enjoying a boom as crude material of jadeite is becomng more and more rare. Because there is no international standard for jadeite, making use of the decoration which is made of transitional type of jadeite,some business men fake jadeite to sale, which makes the market of jadeite disorder. In this paper, all the samples were chosen from mining area of jadeite of Myanmar, firstly, all the samples were divided into jadeite and transitional type of jadeite via tests of density and index of refraction, then adscriptions of all the samples were made certain and verified via mineral sheet analyzing under polarizing microscope. X-ray diffraction, Raman spectrum, infrared spectrum, and the differences of the mineralogical characteristics and spectroscopy characteristics between jadeite and its transitional type were summarized. And infrared diffuse reflection spectrum is an efficient and nondestructive measure which can differentiate jadeite and its transitional type. By infrared diffuse reflection spectrum, there were similar characteristics in the spectrum of jadeite and its transitional type from 1200cm-1 to 500cm-1, but compared with jadeite, its transitional type lacked of absorption peak that was about 964cm-1. And it was considered that jadeite should be defined as follow:an aggregate of mineral with craft value which mainly consists of jadeite or jadeite-omphacite and consists of sodic pyroxene, sodic-calcareous pyroxene and a little hornblende and feldspathoid, and its density rangers in 3.33~3.34g/cm3, its index of refraction ranges in 1.666~1.680(±0.008)(point measurement ranges in 1.65~1.67), which devoted to the international standard of definition of jadeite.
