Home range is the main feature of the usage of the animals which is mainly reflected in the occupation of space regarding territory as the core. By now, the research on the spatial utilization of small mammals is rare. The population of Mongolian gerbil——Nviventer confucianus, living in the Thousand island lake, China, as the research object, was investigated from July to November in 2009 and March to November in 2010. We used make-recapture technology to study the seasonal variations of home range and field, Moreover, it also analyses the factors that influence the home range, territory and living space and explores its home range and territorial behavior pattern in the state of island to enrich the theory of small mammals' home range.1. In the state of island have specific home range behaviors. Their gender, weight, and the seasons have obvious influences on them. The male on the land will expand their scope of activities and the female, affected by the specific physiological need, will reduce their scope of activities. The difference between male and female were distinct. In the state of island, the Niviventer confucianus in the peak of reproduction will expand their scope of activities limitedly, the differences between male and female were not significant because of the influence of the number of the females that are suitable for copulation and the need to protect the consort resource, but the non-breeding is not. Different seasons have different physiological behavior, was influenced by the reproductive action, so the home range size was not significant in seasons. The home range size of male was positively correlated with weight. Weight is the most important factor influencing home range of male. The greater weight, the more food, they must expand their scope of activities and greater home range.2. The overlap was significant between male and female, also between young and adult.. In the state of island, the adult male have greater overlap with female. Because of the size of island and the number of female in limitedly, the overlap among males is low, showing the exclusive of other same sex individuals. The overlap among females and young is superior, may be in order to improve the survival rate of offspring. The field area among males were significant, showing the different physiological behavior between male and female. The field area between young and adult were significant just in spring.3. The research of maximum movement distance was one important manifestation of home rang behavior. The results show that, maximum movement distance was mainly affected by age, sex, weight and home range size. Generally, the movement scope of male was larger than female, also was the adult and young. The greater home range size and the greater weight, both have larger movement distance.
