The evaluation of ground motions is an important step in engineering. Its main purpose is to provide a quantitative fortification criterion for aseismatic design. In this paper, estimates of ground motion in Fuzhou basin by two kinds of way. First of all, we study the attenuation relationship of ground motion parameter on bedrock site in the coastal area of Fujian based on the seismic data ,which from the monitoring network of Fujian Province in recent years and the epicenter is in taiwai. Then using the methods of three-dimensional finite element and synthesis of ground motion of finite-fault modeling to predict the ground motions which caused by active fault of potential threat. The main researches are summed up as follows:1. 254 broad band horezontal acceleration records have been adopted, which from 36 Taiwan earthquakes in recent years (Magnitude Ms =4.0-6.8, epicentral distance R=214-650km) .Horizontal ground motion attenuation relation for far-field in Fujian region has been established from the acceleration records by regress methods.2. According to the active faults exploration in Fuzhou city and the research achievement, we establish the magnitude and hypocenter parameter of the minhou-nanyu fault zone and the binhai fault zone. And predict the broad band strong ground motion of the two earthquakes by numerical simulation.3. The results of numerical simulation reflect the influence of the initial rupture point position on fault, the distribution of asperity and the depth of fault to the distribution of ground motion. And the research shows that they have a greater impact on the distribution of ground motion. Therefore, we calculated the distribution of ground motion in different situations by changing these parameters and proposed to the idea which is take the average of several simulation results as predict results. At last, the paper summarized the whole contents, and put forward the further contents that would be researched.
