Through the research of the transmission of Anodic Aluminum Oxide membrane, we observed the enhanced transmission in the visible regions because of the action of the surface plasmon polaritons. In addition, samples in different medium also showed sensing effect.Therefore, porous alumina, as template of the periodic metal film structures has been used more and more widely in subwavelength optics, optoelectronic integrated devices and the application of new sensors.In this paper, experiment and simulation method were used to study the optical properties of the periodic metal film structures. Reports showed that samples had the enhanced transmission phenomenon in specific wavelengths and they also showed sensing effect in different medium. We also discussed the optical properties and parameters of the reverse structures of the periodic metal films. it turned out that the transmittance was influenced by hole density, aperture, substrate absorption rate and so on.The main content of this paper:(1) We fabricated the porous alumina membrane through the experiment, then coated 50nm -thick of silver on the surface of the membrane. Contrast the transmission curve of the samples before and after coating silver, we found the enhanced transmission at 382nm.Afterwards, we tested the periodic metal film in air, water, ethanol and isopropyl alcohol, and found that as the refractive index of the medium increased, the transmission peak samples had a red shift phenomenon. What's more, the mobile quantity of wavelength increased along with the increase of refractive index changes. At last, we established simulation model with HFSS simulation software corresponding to the experiment, and the calculated results were compared with experimental results. Calculation and experimental results fit well.(2) We built the model of periodic arranged of silver nanoparticles, studied the transmission curve under different parameters, then found that the hole density, aperture, basal loss, etc all influenced the properties of the samples.(3) We built the model of periodic arranged of silver loops, studied the transmission curve under different parameters, and tested it's sensing property in air, water, ethanol and isopropyl alcohol.
