Created by human ancestors as well as the nature through the flow of time, world heritages are invaluable gems possessed by the humankind as a whole. Today, owing to the combined effect of changes of environment and economic development, these natural and cultural heritages are undergoing increasing damages. Therefore, how to protect and these heritages and how to reasonably exploit the heritage sites have become issues highly concerned by the international community and scholars from the globe. The inadequacy in people's understanding of the heritages and the principles of their preserving has resulted in a series of problems to be solved in the process of excavating, maintaining and managing of the heritages, threatening the sustainable protection and development of the heritage sites. Under such circumstances, studies pertaining these precious and scarce natural and cultural heritages are urgently needed by the times.On the basis of studies made by scholars all over the world, the thesis conducts a survey on the protection and exploitation of a limited number of world-class natural heritages, discussing the connotation, categories and features of world natural heritages and principles in their protection and exploitation. Meanwhile, the author also probes into the status quo and the problems existing in China's current systems of heritage administration, and, a comparison is made between China and other nations on the differences and merits of their administering systems. Having analyzed the successful cases of other nations, the thesis makes a number of propositions on how to improve China's heritage administering system and how to satisfactorily settle the friction between the preservation and exploitation of natural heritages. The thesis is aimed at exploring a path leading to a sustainable tapping of China's natural heritages and establishing a harmonious relationship between the conservation of heritages and social development.
