With rapid development of economic globalization and regionalization, East Asia economic development has achieved progress to a great extent. However, compared with European Union and North American Free Trade Region, economic cooperation in East Asia is sluggish. There are various factors that restrict economic integration, among which the influence of the weak collective identification in this region is far-reaching.According to Constructivism theory, collective identification indicates that each member regards one another's interest as mutual or one part of its own so that it would give up part of its own benefit for the mutual goal. Diplomatic policies adopted by a country are affected deeply by its opinion and value. When one country regard itself a member of a group and shares its value with other members in it, it will take a proactive attitude in this regional economic cooperation. However, the East Asian countries don't have a clear idea that they share the same opinion. Some of them even did not regard themselves a member of East Asia for a long time. The lack of collective identification have attributed tremendously to the fact that the economic cooperation in East Asia is lagged behind. The thesis is divided into three chapters, in each of which the author is trying to tell the difficulties of identification in the terms of great powers, country units and sub regions due to the series of causes including the conflicts of territories, nationalities and religions. As a result, it is necessary to arouse the awareness of East Asia and related measures must be taken to strengthen it. Furthermore, China, as one of the big countries in this area, is supposed to play an active role in East Asian economic cooperation as well as to set a good example for other countries.
