Electrocardiogram (ECG) is the surface reflection of the heart's electrical activity which plays an important part detection and diagnosis of heart disease. The realization of real-time ECG data compression has practical significance in the aspect of remote medical services.One is the efficiency of ECG signal compression coding, which means high compression ratio , and the difference between reconstructed signal and the PRD is as small as possible. The other is the Real-time of ECG signal compression encoding. For telemedicine ECG signal transmission system , much of the delay may be fatal, so one of the objectives pursued is decreasing delay and improving the time of ECG signal compression coding.According to these two points, this paper presents the ECG signal compression encoding scheme. ECG is similar to the periodic signal, so according to its structural features, we can split the signal cycle .And each cycle of ECG signal is processed with lifting wavelet transform, the coefficients from which are done through a Dead-zone of the uniform quantizer. Then the coefficients are decomposed into important position quantization coefficient stream, symbol stream, PMSB, RB, and the first three data streams were related to model the probability of a multi-cycle statistical for the realization of adaptive arithmetic coding. Then we can process the ECG signals like above until the end. In this process, the computer memory maintain multiple cycles of quantitative coefficients, and we can take advantage of the correlation between the number of cycles for the data streams'adaptive arithmetic encoding.The test ECG records are from MIT-BIH arrhythmia database. Experimental results show that the experimental program not only ensure the ECG signal compression coding efficiency at the same time, but it also raises a very good compression in real time.
