As the continuing demands of microwave sources which be able to operate steadily with high power, efficiency and frequency in military, scientific research and industrialized produce, High Power Microwave (HPM) Technology is a new and frontier science which develop step by step. This technology has developed rapidly by making arduous efforts of some generation. Besides it may be applied in many areas such as military radar, active denial weapon and industrial calefaction, many newly applies will be appear constantly.High-power millimeter wave systems are consisting of sources, transmission and radiation systems. Each subsystem usually plays an utmost important function in the whole HPM system. Gyrotron are newly and rightly type of millimeter wave sources with the nice characteristics of high peak power, high gain, high efficiency and suitability bandwidth and so on. The transmission systems include mode converters and transitions which make a good match between the sources and the radiation system. The radiation system is consisting of antenna device which complete radiation and receiving of energy. The mode converters has uniquely effect on enhance whole system's capability. It can make the energy of wave source to transmit and conversion. Therefore, it has vital important significance in theory and apply. Supported by the gyrotron 863 item, the mode converters of gyrotron are studied in the round. The mode converter with design and process has applied in experiment of scientific research successfully. The main works are following:1. The mode coupling of two kind frameworks with gradual changing radius of waveguide and bent of axis in circuit waveguide to overmoded waveguide are studied. On the base of coupling wave theory, the coupling wave equation and currently expression of coupling coefficient are given from Maxwell equations.2. The realization condition of energy complete diversion is analyzed in particular. The method to solve coupling wave equation with numerical value and optical arithmetic are discussed in different conditions.3. A TE01—TM11 mode converter is researched in systems. On the base of coupling wave equation to bend of axis in circuit waveguide, the codes to solve equation have been constructed. Under the two kind conditions of constant curvature and vary curvature in ka wave band, the optical numerical value to three fabric which include curvature of cyclograph, exponential and sinusoidal is given. Analysis of critical angle has reference value to curvature circuit waveguide.4. A TM11-HE11 mode converter is discussed in detail. Under the two kind contour line of linearity shade and parabolic vary in ka wave band, the optical simulated value to three parameter which include period, slot width and length of mode converter by HFSS and CST Microwave studio.5. The mode converter with 8mm wave band has designed and processed. It has applied in experiment of scientific research successfully. Results of test are in excellent agreement with the simulated value. Power capability of waveguide has been analyzed.
