The Bistatic Forward-looking SAR(BFSAR) is an extension of the basic working mode of bistatic SAR. With the choice of proper geometry, it is able to realize high resolution imaging in the right ahead flight direction. Also, it can eliminate the inherent imaging dead zone of side-looking SAR, thus compensate for the defect of normal side-looking mode. Many potential applications as it has, BSFAR is considerably worth of further research work.China has just begun the study of BFSAR. Based on the traditional theory of Bistatic SAR, this paper focuses on the resolution properties of BFSAR. My major work is as follows.1. Explain the principles of traditional Bistatic SAR in many aspects, including the echo mode, geometry mode and resolution theory.2. Propose the concept of iso-Doppler contours and iso-range contours. On this basis of them, this paper proves the possibility of BFSAR imaging.3. Put forward the general BFSAR geometric configuration, as well as analyze some characteristics of range history and Doppler properties of BFSAR, especially for the latter one. Then the paper summarizes the second-order approximation formula and non-approximation formula for the Doppler frequency shift, also construes the influence of high order component on Doppler properties.4. Based on the ambiguity function theory, this paper carries out a detailed analysis of range resolution, azimuth resolution, cross range resolution, the resolution in any direction and the area of resolution cell. It then further deduces the range and the azimuth resolution formula which can be applied to BFSAR. In addition, it analyzes the factors that affect the range resolution in the geometry configuration of BFSAR.5. Carry out a detailed analysis of the impact of the geometric parameters of system on the resolution in several specific forward-looking modes. Moreover, the paper analyzes the distribution of resolution in space.
