In recent years, wireless communication technology is developing rapidly. WiMAX, which is a newly proposed wirless technology, has become the fourth 3G communication technology, which also include WCDMA, CDMA2000, and TD-SCDMA. Whereas, this technology is not perfect yet, thus there remain many challangeble tasks,including the improvement of each mechanism and scheduling algorithms, for the researchers.Scheduling algorithms for QoS are of utmost importance in WiMAX network. The IEEE 802.16 standard provides a framework for the scheduling mechanisms, but details for implementation of scheduling algorithms are unspecified.This research mainly focuses on studying the mechanism of bandwidth allocation, which belongs to the category of scheduling and is also not widely studied.This thesis is structured as follows.In chapter 1 and 2, WiMAX technology and its developing status is introduced, also the features and advantages of WiMAX are presented by comparing with the other wireless communication technologies.In chapter 3 and 4, the system architecture and protocol model of WiMAX is shown, also a new bandwidth allocation algorithm is proposed.The simulation results show that, new new algorithm has greatly enhanced the system QoS performance.In chapter 5,an integrated application idea, which combines bandwidth allocation and handover, is proposed.This kind of application is theoretically proved to be able to prove the WiMAX system efficiency. The final chapter concludes this thesis, and puts forward the future developing trend of WiMAX.
