This dissertation focuses on the area of the needs in software evolution and proposes the concept of the triggers in software evolution. Beyond that, it constructs a controlling model of the triggers in software evolution (ETCM)based on Colored Petri-Net and AHP with a formal view point. The model aims at separating the effective triggers from the ineffective ones, and to improve the research foundation of the software evolution process. The specific content of this dissertation is as follows:1. Constructing the controlling model of the triggers in software evolution (ETCM), including the formal methods for modeling the controlling approaches of the triggers in software evolution based on Colored Petri-Net and AHP. Besides that, controlling algorithms, the important definitions and the characteristics are added too.2. Proposing the analysis towards the controlling model of the triggers in software evolution.3. From a case study, the application of ETCM is proposed, and users or developers can learn and understand the model easily.According to the dissertation, four main progresses have been achieved:1. Providing the concept and the idea of how the needs of the software evolution can be controlled and constructing the concept into a formal definition.2. Constructing the ETCM and defining all the relating operations with the corresponding algorithms.3. Introducing the AHP into the software evolution process area, and using that on the problem analysis and the choosing measurement of the effective triggers.4. The architecture of the software evolution process is modified and reused on ETCM.
