Fog rendering technique is one of the very important branches of real-time graphics rendering technique and supportable technique of advanced 3D scene rendering special effect. However, now scene fog rendering adopt relatively traditional fog rendering methods in many 3D graphics engines and 3D games engines. These methods'abilities of simulating fog phenomenon is limited. It is very hard to simulate many gorgeous and special natural fog phenomenon.The real and efficient fog rendering effect can immensely enhance the sense of reality, Immersion and depth. Owing to the influence of fog, the objects in far plane of scene become vague. Fog effect also can assist scene rendering acceleration by using clipping algorithm. So, the research of fog rendering technique is very meaningful. The main contents of research are:Discussing different fog rendering methods, mainly include Z-based fog, radial fog, volumetric fog, Animated Fog. Comparing these fog rendering methods. Analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of these fog rendering methods. Locating the suitable occasion of these fog rendering methods.Researching the layered fog rendering methods. Realizing the final fog color computation of any scene point in rendering range of layered fog by using differentials points algorithm, and the change of fog rendering range from ground to sky to any height to any height.Using software engineering methodology and module design methodology to finish the design and realization of fog rendering module on Romans graphics engine. Successfully integrating the effect of radial fog and layered fog in fog rendering module and realizing the real-time control of fog effect in virtual scene on Romans graphics engine, including the real-time change of fog type and real-time adjustment of fog density.
