Array signal processing is widely used in various industries, such as radar, communication, sonar and earthquake detecting etc. Compared with the single sensor system, sensor array has the advantage of flexible beamforming control, high signal gain, strong capability of interference suppression and high resolution of direction of arrival estimation, thus it has attract more and more attention of researches all over the world in several decades.In recent years, coping with wideband and coherent signals becomes a hot subject in this field. The wideband signal is very widely used in array signal processing for its valuable property, for example, wideband signal is adopted in radar to improve detecting resolution, and also, wideband signal is used in audio signal processing, sonar and communication. The traditional algorithm of narrow band array is sensitivity to the signal bandwidth. Its performance is declined while the bandwidth becomes larger. On the other hand, because of the development of smart jammers and the multipath propagation of electromagnetic wave, the incident signals of array are always coherent. The coherent signals cause rank deficiency of the array covariance matrix, thus the performance of the processor deteriorates greatly. In this paper, we first discuss on the traditional methods of coping with wideband and coherent signals in array signal processing by establishing the mathematical model. And then, we go through how to tackle wideband signals in side lobe cancellation techniques and provide the performance comparison of some useful algorithms, also the optimal configuration of the auxiliary array is designed. At last, we research on the application of difference methods in direction of arrival estimation. Based on the analysis of two novel difference methods, a new method is proposed to preprocess the difference matrix and then better performance and less computational burden can be obtained.
