Necessary medical equipments are required increasingly in rural hospitals and community medical institutions, with the development of healthcare in China, ECG is one of them, being a useful machine to detect heart disease. So, it was decided to design a low-cost, portable, 12-lead digital ECG Machine.This is to introduce a hardware design of a low cost, portable, 12-lead digital ECG. Data acquisition system, which can be used both in a normal portable ECG machine, or a PC with a software analyser.In the ECG machine design, an ARM920T 32-bit MCU was used as the control unit, low-power devices and power management technology were selected to make it possible to work long hours with embedded battery packs. Reduce the quantity of analogue devices to minimize the size. A digital ECG data acquisition lead was designed to reduce the noise impact. DSP technique was employed to increase the reliability and stability. Module structure design method was achieved to get a good maintainability.In the data acquisition part, a 24-bit 16-channel high speed AD converter being used, together with a simplified circuit design- eliminating the need of the 3.2s filter and the Wilson net hardware- a compact 12-lead ECG data acquisition system was achieved. It can use the USB power line, for a 5VDC power supply is designed in the ECG data acquisition system, and make it easy to adapt to PC analyser.
